John 1:14 (ESV)
[14] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Talk About It
Have you ever imagined an artist stepping into their painting, or a writer becoming a character in their own story? That’s a little like what happened at Christmas! The “Word” in this verse means Jesus—the Creator of the world. God made everything, and then, amazingly, He chose to enter His own creation by becoming a human. Jesus, God’s Son, was born in a real place and lived among people. He felt hunger, tiredness, and every part of being human just like us.
This isn’t just a nice story. It shows us that God loves us so much He wanted us to know Him up close. Even when people didn’t realize who Jesus was, God still came. Just like a creator stepping into their art, Jesus was full of kindness (“grace”) and always did what was true and right. As we prepare for Christmas, let’s remember: it’s not just about gifts or decorations. The best part is that God visited us so we could know how special we are to Him and see His love in a way we never could before.
For Parents to Explain
Dear God, thank You for coming into the world as Jesus so we could see Your love close up. Help us remember how wonderful it is that You are with us. Amen.
Family Activities
Step Into the Scene (Role Play)
- Choose someone to be Jesus and others to be people in Bethlehem as a family.
- Act out “Jesus entering the world”—pretend the Creator is stepping into His own creation.
- Talk about how you’d feel seeing the Creator as a real person among you.
- Share one way you can show God’s love to someone this week.
Creator’s Art (Drawing/Art)
- On a big paper, draw a simple scene (like a park, a house, or a city).
- Each person draws themselves “stepping into” the scene.
- As you draw, talk about how God stepped into our world through Jesus.
- Display your drawing somewhere special and pray, thanking Jesus for coming close to us.
Family Prayer
Let’s each thank God for one thing we notice about His love or kindness this week.
